MEET US AT THE FAIR!

If you're like me I love this time of year when the weather cools and bring out craft fairs and farmers markets. Which made me think that many of us on the Etsy Twitter Team (ETT) have been talking about the up coming shows we are having. With over a 1,000 readers and approx 100 shops I thought about how much I would love to meet some more of our members. So I asked the team to send me a list of Craft shows/farmers markets that they will be doing in the next few months.

If you have never been to a craft show/farmers market I highly suggest going to check them out. You can not only meet our sellers, Etsy Twitter Team, but you can talk to them one on one about their craft and products.

My DH, Joe and I go to a farmers market every Sunday and when we do we meet and find the most amazing things. I have even started my holiday shopping. My biggest surprised was to already have found one of my "hard to buy for" gifts.

Shop of the Week: Curious Mess

I, for one, would not call Starla Petersen’s Etsy shop, CuriousMess.etsy.com, a mess at all. It’s a shop filled with curiously wonderful items! And the item photography is delicious to boot.

“When I first opened my shop, I was only making the wood paintings. But as things have progressed, I've begun to work my love of fabric into it as well, with the newest items being fabric bowls and fabric brooches/pendants. I love fun and whimsical.”

And it shows in her work. Her fabric bowls are stunning in their design and detail. You can really see the fine craftsmanship in her new line of embroidered brooches, too.

“Everything you see in my shop, I truly enjoyed making. It makes me so happy to be able to express myself creatively, and I hope that comes through in my artwork. I want my work to make people smile.”

What inspires her to create? “The whole entire process inspires me. From start to finish... sketching out ideas... playing around with fabric... picking colors. My absolute favorite part of it all is that first spark of a new idea or design. I get giddy. Unfortunately, my ideas usually come to me as I'm lying in bed about to doze off. It's very hard to get to sleep once I've got a new idea bouncing around in my head.”

When asked about her Twitter habits: “I like to make sure I keep my Twittering fresh. I want people to see not only the shop updates and the things I create, but get a good glimpse of my personality as well. You want to be memorable in a good way. Reply to what others are saying. Make connections. Yes, I just added a new bowl to the shop. But I also LOVE 80's movies!”

New Crafting & Business Forum

Becki, from AmbientLights.etsy.com has created a new Crafting and Business Help Community forum/board. She has really put a lot of thought and effort into what looks to be a great place to get business help and chat too! Becki has written a post to introduce the forum...

Crafting & Business Help Community

There are lots of boards out there that you can be a member of, but this is a really special board if I may say so myself ;). I created this Community board by taking the things I like most from other boards, adding my special touch to it, and putting it all together in one fabulous place! My goal is to establish a place where everyone feels at home and can come to see friends, get the help they need for their craft, for their business and for moral support also.

There are a few different forums just for business related topics including advertising, marketing, networking, accounting, shipping, etc as well as a forum just for selling on online venues, and another for wholesaling, fund raising, craft shows, home parties and more.

There are currently eight specific forums for help and tips for your craft, everything from Bath & Body items, Candles, Jewelry, Crafting with Vintage Items, and more. If you think there should be another crafting specific forum that you don't see there, please post your idea in the suggestions forum!

There is a Chit Chat forum to chat about anything in the world you want and also a venting forum... for when you really need to get something off your chest.

Of course we have a Promo You forum (to promote yourself and others). We also have a special Poll forum. You can create a poll question with up to 10 choices for members to choose from to answer your question, and you can set the number of days you want the poll to run for.

The really special part of this board is that while anyone in the world can register and join our Community, there is also a private forum section that is JUST for the Etsy Twitter Team. Vickie (In My Head Studios) already has some great threads started in our private forum.
